Episode 1

Can't Depend On Love

Driving Indy Rock with a Hammer Dulcimer introduction, what doesn't everbody do that? This song is ironic in that is has a happy feel to it and yet there is a dark sadness to the story in the song. That irony was not lost on us in the studio, and yet the energy of the song somehow matches the lyric anyway - one of those strange things that a good song will do musically sometimes.

Episode 2

Captain With His Ship

A Gordon Lighfoot-esq guitar lead atop the acoustic guitar rhythms of this song make it one of our favorite tunes from these sessions. A lonely hero dealing with lies and mutiny, "Captain With His Ship" has a rise and fall to it, and yet in the end, the ship goes down and takes you with it. There are elements of the hero and the martyr in this song.

Passed Love Affairs

When do you give up? This tune is a solid sleeper ballad with a pedal steel groove to go with a storytelling song that asks that very question in regards to a woman who has a test for a man.

Episode 4

She Is So Pretty

An indy groove love triangle about the irony of one who is drawn to the subtle odd beauty that itself is drawn to the banal, common, ordinary, puerile appeal of a cute butt and a cocky attitude.

Episode 5

Wait She Said

I almost called this song "Co-Dependant's Theme" because it harks back to the mind of an enabler who is running out of steam. To keep giving to a user may indeed be a generous act, but to expect recompense is a sure recipe for heartbreak.

Episode 6

In My Mind

The delusion of devotion. Often the young don't know how to love, but they are certain they do, nonetheless. And in the process of playing this song in coffee house settings, and bouncing it off of friends along the way, it changed songwriting for me.
